What is Anxiety?

There are many types of anxiety disorders, each of which has slightly different presentations. Anxiety can generally be defined as excessive worrying to the point that it interferes in daily life. Anxiety is the result of internal factors, whether it brain chemistry or conditioning, though it can be triggered by external factors. Anxiety is an ongoing condition that is present regardless of external factors in contrast to stress which is a reaction to a high pressure or threatening situation. Anxiety has both mental and physical symptoms. The physical symptoms include excessive sweating, quickened heart rate, weak muscles, and difficulty breathing. Anxiety is also closely linked to sleeping problems.
